There’s something deeply healing about creating space in your home that’s dedicated to wellness, where healing feels intentional, sacred, and accessible. A home apothecary isn’t just a collection of remedies — it’s a love letter to your body, intuition, and the natural world. It’s where plant medicine, energy, and ritual come together to support your mind, body, and spirit.
Whether you’re just starting your holistic journey or you’re deep in the rhythm of natural living, curating a simple yet powerful home apothecary is a beautiful way to return to the roots of healing — gentle, profound, and aligned with the wisdom of nature.
Let’s walk through how to create a home apothecary that supports you and your family with intention, starting with the foundational elements of homeopathy, cell salts, flower essences, and a few favorite herbs and essential oils.
Remember: It doesn’t have to be overwhelming. If you’re just starting out, begin with one modality — Cell Salts and a quality Homeopathic starter kit are my top recommendations for beginners.
✨ Homeopathy: The Wisdom of Energetic Medicine
Homeopathy is one of the most beautiful healing arts I’ve had the privilege to study and witness in action. It works energetically — not by suppressing symptoms, but by gently stimulating the body’s innate healing intelligence. Remedies are made from plants, minerals, and natural substances, prepared in a way that preserves their energetic imprint while removing toxicity.
The Helios Homeopathy Kits
If you’re new to homeopathy, the Helios Basic 36 Remedy Kit (30c potencies) and the Accident & Emergency Kit (200c potencies) are ideal starting points. These beautifully curated kits cover most common acute needs — from fevers and headaches to emotional support and minor injuries. They also offer the Labor and Childbirth Kit (200c potencies), which I’ve found incredibly useful, even well beyond the postpartum season.
Personally, I began with the Basic 36 Remedy Kit, along with the Labor and Childbirth Kit, and then added remedies from the local health food store, Ollois online, Helios UK online, or even the Amazon Boiron or Ollois store. The key is to have a diverse collection of the basics because, in acute situations, you often have to pivot remedies as your symptoms shift.
I prefer to stick with 30c and/or 200c for home acute prescribing.
Some of the essentials you’ll find inside the Basic and Emergency Kits include:
- Arnica – the go-to remedy for bruises, trauma, and overexertion (every mama should havethis in her diaper bag or purse — I can’t tell you how many times it’s saved us, especially alongside Aconite listed below.
- Aconite – helpful in the early stages of shock, panic, or sudden illness. Useful for the shock of getting injured, sick, exposed to cold wind, subjected to loud noises, etc.
- Ignatia – a deeply comforting remedy for grief, emotional stress, or heartache
- Nux Vomica – supports digestion, all types of overindulgence (caffeine, alcohol, food, drugs, media, work, etc.), and irritability
- Phytolocca – often used for swollen glands, mastitis, cracked nipples, sore throats, and lymphatic congestion. It’s especially beneficial when symptoms feel intense, aching, or radiating. This remedy was my bestie during my first year of breastfeeding. ding.
Pair your kit with a simple materia medica or app to quickly reference remedies based on symptoms. Over time, you’ll develop a deep trust in choosing the right remedy based on your body’s cues.
💧 Jackson’s Cell Salts: Mineral Support for the Whole Body
Cell salts (tissue salts) are micro-doses of essential minerals that support cellular health and balance. They’re gentle, safe for all ages, and a wonderful daily support tool — especially for those with chronic stress, fatigue, or depleted nervous systems.
Jackson’s Cell Salts are beautifully potent and easy to use. There are 12 foundational salts, each supporting a different physical and emotional health aspect. I highly recommend eventually having all twelve, plus the 12-in-1.
A few of my favorite essentials to include in your apothecary:
- #2 Calc Phos – for bone health, growth, fatigue, and post-illness recovery
- #4 Ferrum Phos – a must-have for first-stage colds, low-grade fevers, or inflammation
- #5 Kali Mur – ideal for second-stage colds, congestion, or swollen glands
- #6 Kali Phos – the nerve and mood tonic; helpful for anxiety, burnout, and brain fog
- #8 Mag Phos – known as the “homeopathic muscle relaxer”; amazing for cramps, tension, or spasms
- #12 Silica – for hair, skin, nails, and detoxification
And for simple, everyday support:
- 12-in-1 Combination – This blend combines all twelve tissue salts in one easy-to-take formula. It’s perfect for overall wellness, especially when you’re unsure what your body needs or use cell salts preventatively.
You can take these salts individually or combine them as needed. They dissolve under the tongue, making them simple and gentle enough for even the most sensitive systems. These are safe for children and adults. My son has received the benefits of cell salts since he was in utero. I followed the cell salt protocol throughout my pregnancy and used them daily through postpartum and beyond.
I like to place whichever combination is needed in the moment into a small glass dish and let my son pour them all into his mouth at once.
🌸 Flower Essences: Emotional Healing from Nature
Where homeopathy works on the physical and energetic body, flower essences focus more deeply on emotional and spiritual alignment. These are vibrational remedies made from wildflowers, created to gently shift stuck emotions, limiting beliefs, and energy imbalances. energy imbalances. Flower essences contain no crude substance, making them safe for everyone – yourself, babies, the elderly, and your furry friends.
Some of my most trusted allies:
- FES Five-Flower Formula – a beautifully crafted alternative to Rescue Remedy; ideal for emotional overwhelm, fear, or moments of high stress (think flower essence first aid). This is a lifesaver for child meltdowns and tantrums, for both mother and child.
- Olive – my most relied-on remedy when I’m soul-tired and depleted on every level — brings gentle yet profound restoration.
- Crab Apple – this has been especially helpful in accepting the changes in my body following pregnancy, and also the changes occurring from aging.
- Star of Bethlehem – beautiful for old grief, heartbreak, or unhealed emotional wounds
- Wild Rose – tap into your heart space, for reigniting purpose, vitality, and a sense of joy
You can take them under the tongue or in a beverage, place a few drops on your skin or heart space, or even add to a bath or diffuser blend as part of a self-care ritual. Choose intuitively — flower essences speak softly, but their shifts are profound.
🌿 Herbal Allies: The Earth’s Oldest Medicine
Your apothecary wouldn’t be complete without a few foundational herbs. Whether in teas, tinctures, or dried form, these plants offer nourishment, resilience, and calm in times of need. You should see my herbal tincture collection!
Some beginner-friendly staples:
- Chamomile – calming to the nervous system, digestive tract, and heart; perfect for children too
- Nettle – rich in minerals, gently energizing, and deeply nourishing
- Milky Oat Tops – a revered nervine rich in minerals, deeply restorative to the nervous system, especially after long-term stress or burnout
- Red Raspberry Leaf – rich in iron, magnesium, and calcium, this herb supports women’s reproductive health and hormonal balance. Traditionally used as a tea to tone the uterus, ease cramps, and prepare for labor.
- Lemon Balm – soothing for anxious hearts and restless minds
- Calendula – supports lymph, skin healing, and emotional warmth
- Elderberry – immune-boosting, antiviral, and perfect during cold seasonon
Store your herbs in labeled dark glass jars, away from direct sunlight.
Infuse your tea rituals with intention — let it be a moment of grounding, not just another to-do.
I highly recommend making sun tea with your medicinal herbs. Infusing your tea with the warmth and energy from the sun imparts extra healing magic. Place your herbs in a large Mason jar, fill with filtered water, and place in the sun to steep all of the medicinal properties from the tea.
Mountain Rose Herbs is a great online store where you can start your herb collection.
🌹 Essential Oils: Aromatherapy for Mind, Mood & Energy
As an aromatherapist, I always say essential oils are concentrated plant soul. They uplift, calm, invigorate, and anchor us with just a few drops. I love how quickly aromas can alter an atmosphere, our emotions, and daily life. I can’t imagine my space without these beautiful aromas wafting around. Aroma is intrinsically tied to our amygdala — the part of the brain responsible for processing emotions and memory, which is why scent can evoke such powerful emotional responses. al responses.
A few core oils for your apothecary:
- Lavender – the most versatile oil with hundreds of uses – calming, balancing, and perfect for sleep or skin support (burns, sunburns, rashes, etc.)
- Frankincense – grounding and spiritually protective; use during meditation or deep healing. My favorite place to apply this is the back of my neck near my occipital and on my third eye to activate my pineal gland.
- Peppermint – refreshing for headaches, digestion, or low energy and focus
- Geranium – emotionally balancing, especially for hormonal support or heart healing
- Tea Tree – antimicrobial and cleansing; great for first aid and skin issues. I often pair it with Hepar Sulph, a homeopathic remedy helpful for infections or abscesses.
Choose high-quality, pure oils — and let their energy be a part of your daily rituals, whether it’s anointing your wrists, diffusing in the evening, or adding to your baths. I appreciate how convenient and fast-acting aromatherapy is. You can simply unscrew the cap and breathe in the beauty of nature.
🦋Creating Your Apothecary Space
You don’t need a big fancy space to begin — a shelf, a drawer, or a quiet corner is enough.
Organize your remedies so you can easily access them when needed.
Keep a small journal or guidebook nearby to track what you use, what works, and what you’re learning.
Some simple ideas to add:
- A wooden or glass cabinet for visual beauty
- A diffuser and a few favorite crystals or candles
- Your favorite herbal or homeopathy books
- Labels, glass jars, and dropper bottles for your DIY blends
This isn’t just about having remedies on hand. It’s about creating sacred space for healing.
A space where you return to yourself, remember your intuition, and partner with the natural world to restore balance and vitality.
Your home apothecary is a living expression of your values — a return to simplicity, to slowness, to sovereignty. It’s a way of saying yes to your body, your intuition, and the Earth’s wisdom. And the beautiful thing is: it evolves with you.
Start small. Choose what speaks to you. Let this be an act of devotion, not perfection.
And remember: healing is not something we chase — it’s something we come home to.
With love,
